Some Gadites joined David at the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for battle, who could handle shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as gazelles on the mountains.
1 Chronicles 12:8
Wow! Doesn’t that sound awesome? What man would not want to be considered a “Mighty Man of Valor”? If we are to be devoted followers of Christ then that is exactly what we must become. We must put on the armor of God (Ephesians chapter 6) and prepare for battle, because the enemy will do all in his power to undermine our Christian life and the lives of those we hold dear. Still… how exactly do we do this?
1. Prayer – We must all pray for strength. Luke 22:31-32 – (Jesus) Simon, Simon , Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers
.
2. It is important that we recognize who our enemy is and what his tactics are. 2 Corinthians 2:10,11 - I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. Also see Ephesians 6:12
3. We must be obedient. Deuteronomy 11:22-23,25 – If you carefully obey all these commands I am giving you to follow – to love the Lord your God , to walk in his ways and to hold fast to Him – The n the Lord will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. No man will be able to stand against you. The Lord your God, as He promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land wherever you go Also see John 14:21
4. Be confident in God’s promises to us. 1 John 4:4- You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world Also see Isaiah 54:17, Malachi 4:3, Luke 10:19 and Romans 8:38-39
